The parts of the school affected were largely all the old buidings,the ones in which we spent our schooldays. The modern buidings, erected after we left, are unaffected. The school press release is as follows:

At 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday 6th October a fire was discovered in the old block of the school. The fire, which appeared to have started in or around the kitchen area, burnt throughout the night. Despite the valiant efforts of over 100 fireman from throughout all of Devon and Cornwall, the majority of the old block has been completely ruined or destroyed, including both the new Business Studies computer suite, and the Old Blanchminster computer suite. The School hall, old music room, drama room have been severely damaged, and the humanities area has been almost completely gutted. The kitchens, and the adjacent classrooms, are also out of action, along with some science labs, school nursery, careers and administration offices. At present the school will remain closed for the rest of this week, but arrangements are being made for temporary classrooms to take the place of the estimated 14 rooms that we have lost to the blaze. Currently, the school has no electricity or telephones, so please do not try and contact the school by telephone, or call at the school.
